The new Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is a premium travel card that wants you to get out of town, and comes with a pretty hefty signup bonus to help you do just that. Capital One already makes our list of the best travel credit cards, with its no-annual-fee VentureOne and sister card Venture, both of which earn miles for everyday purchases. Now, it’s getting in the luxury travel game with this latest addition—and there’s a signup bonus that’s worth $1,000 in travel credits.

So what makes this new card different from its peers? Venture X cardholders earn 2X miles on every purchase, and a boost when booking getaways through the Capital One travel portal, where flights earn 5X miles and hotel stays and rental cars bring in 10X miles. Every year, members receive a $300 credit to use in the portal, which significantly knocks down the $395 annual fee. It’s cut even further with an anniversary bonus of 10,000 miles (equivalent to about $100).
For flexibility, miles can be transferred to other loyalty programs, including one-to-one transfers with partners such as Air France, British Airways and Wyndham Rewards. But the portal stands out with a few other perks, too: While shopping, travelers can freeze a fare’s price for 14 days, or if they complete a booking at the issuer’s recommendation, they’ll be reimbursed for further reductions. Bottom line: You can do some shopping around before you buy your ticket and not have to worry about missing that great price.
While on the go, Venture X members have access to more than 1,300 Priority Pass lounges. Plus, Capital One has introduced its own space at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and has plans for others to open in Denver and Dulles in 2022. After breezing through security (of course, there’s a $100 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry applications), take advantage of amenities such as Peloton bikes and nap pods.
Last but certainly not least, new cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases within six months from account opening. That’s about $1,000 back in your pocket when you use Capital One Travel. And for a limited time, vacation rentals through Airbnb and VRBO can earn up to a $200 statement credit.
As always, we suggest evaluating whether you need to add another credit card to your wallet, and reviewing a card’s user agreement before applying. Then, it’s time to get packing.
